Reasons and risk factors for culling Holstein dairy cows in Morocco
author
Abstract:
This study was carried out in a commercial herd from 2008 to 2012 in order to determine the most prevalent reasons for culling Holstein cows and to assess the effects of risk factors. Overall, 519 (28.2%) cows were culled for involuntary (98.8%) and voluntary (1.2%) reasons. The involuntary causes of culling were diseases (38.7%), reproduction problems (36.0%), udder disorders (7.7%), lameness (3.7%) and death (12.7%). Mean age of cows at culling was 70.5±15.6 months and the time interval from last calving to culling averaged 263±196 days. Logistic binary regression was used to model the hazard of culling. The analysis of risk factors showed that parity, calving season, and age at first calving had significant effects on the hazard of culling (P < 0.05 to P

full textRisk factors affecting the culling of Iranian Holstein dairy cows
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the association between risk factors and the risk of culling in Iranian Holstein cows. The data consisted of 329,772 lactation records obtained from the Animal Breeding Center of Iran (2003 - 2012) and logistic regression was applied to investigate the associations between the predictor and response variables. The response variable in this experiment wa...

This experiment was conducted to determine the association between several risk factors which may affect culling of the Iranian Holstein cows. The data consisted of 329,772 lactation records collected by the Animal Breeding Center of Iran (2003 to 2012).The logistic regression was applied to investigate the associations between the response variable, the risk of culling, and predictor variables...

This study was designed to determine the culling rates of 23 Holstein dairy herds (with an average size of180 cows per herd) in Neyshabur area in northeastern Iran over a period of three years from 2001 to 2003.The average annual culling rate was 13.1%, (98.5% involuntary and 1.5% voluntary). Of the total disposals(1612 cows), 53.48% were culled by the end of five years of age. Poor fertility w...

full textPrevalence, Risk Factors and Consequent Effect of Dystocia in Holstein Dairy Cows in Iran
The objective of this research was to determine the prevalence, risk factors and consequent effect of dystocia on lactation performance in Holstein dairy cows in Iran. The data set consisted of 55,577 calving records on 30,879 Holstein cows in 30 dairy herds for the period March 2000 to April 2009. Factors affecting dystocia were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression models through t...
